For the course Linked Data, our final project was to create a research plan for a Linked Open Data Project with a topic of our choosing. I chose the TV show The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs (TLDI). TLDI is a show where Joe Bob shows various films along with his commentary, and occasional guests. I determined which data would be important to include, and chose an existing schema to create an ontology which the database would be based on. This assignment aligns with PLO 4 which relates to evaluating systems and technology. This project gave me an idea of the work that goes into linked data projects, and will prepare me for working with linked data in my career. It also aligns with many of the Information Technologies and Data Management competencies for special collections professionals, particularly III.C.3: “Applies knowledge of data models and query languages to effectively maintain and deliver access to special collections and archival metadata”, III.C.5: “Maintains active knowledge and awareness of data management and manipulation tools to support assessment and research activities”, as well as applying project management skills as described in III.C.6.
